RDA to be published end of November 2009

News from the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA:

• Finalization of RDA text: The RDA text was handed to the co-publishers on schedule on 22 June. RDA is scheduled to be released at the end of November 2009. [emphasis mine]
• New Chair: Alan Danskin will be the JSC Chair from 1 July 2009.Danskin is the Metadata and Bibliographic Standards Coordinator at the British Library.
• During July, the JSC Secretariat will move to the British Library: [email protected]
• Web site: The JSC Web site has moved to http://www.rda-jsc.org/. There are redirections in place from the old site to pages on the new site explaining the change.

My question: What happened to the RDA Online demo scheduled for May 2009?

ALA Publishing made a decision to delay the demo for a couple reasons. We thought showing draft content might be misleading in some areas. We thought some functions might still be in play. We worked closely with Christine Oliver to create a demo for the Canadian Library Association preconference May 29. We plan to show some functionalities between now and release, using screens from the demo. In the meantime, we've posted a few screen captures on www.rdaonline.org

Thanks for the update. Makes a lot of sense to wait. I took a look at the RDA Online screenshots. They look really good! Much better than an earlier version I had seen over a year ago.

Don't forget that at ALA Annual, July 12, Saturday, 1:30-5:30, Nannette Naught will be speaking and demonstrating RDA Online.

I'm feeling kind of sad because I will not be able to go to Annual. But I'm hoping to go to the next Midwinter meeting.
