Michael Gorman will speak tomorrow at the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Annual Meeting & Conference [PDF]. The topic is the future of cataloging:
"Michael Gorman, internationally renowned author of the Anglo
American Cataloguing Code, 2nd ed., and many other publications
on library education and cataloging, will offer his insightful views
on the future of bibliographic control in a 21st century American
context. Reviewing the historic role of libraries and catalogs as they
support scholarly research and popular culture interests, Mr. Gorman
provocatively challenges the direction that the Library of Congress
and other libraries are following with the emergence of Google,
metadata and digital collections. Following the presentation, the
audience will have an opportunity for debate during an open
question-and-answer period."
Over the last few years, Gorman has not participated much in the future of cataloging debate. I'll be interested to hear what he has to say.
